An ode to Delft: the inspiring journey behind Delft Blue Gin
"Delft didn't have its own gin yet" - with that simple observation, TU Delft student Joris Kooijman began an entrepreneurial journey that took him from idea to success in six months. The result? Delft Blue Gin, a true ode to the city of Delft.

A gin with a story
Inspired by the TU Delft Hortus Botanicus, Joris developed a unique gin with botanicals such as juniper, coriander and blood orange. The latter is a subtle tribute to William of Orange, the Father of the Netherlands, and gives the gin a fresh citrus hint. Together with master distiller John de Lange of Schiedam, Joris made his vision a reality.
Success in the Delft hospitality industry
The adventure began in restaurant De Delf on Oude Delft, where the first bottle was opened. Now, just six months after the launch, Delft Blue Gin can already be found in dozens of catering establishments in Delft and the surrounding area. From cozy cafes to renowned restaurants, everyone embraces the special story behind the gin.
Authentic entrepreneurship
With his Delft Blue cargo bike, Joris visits catering establishments personally. He not only delivers the gin, but also shares the story behind Delft Blue Gin.
Discovering, tasting and experiencing Delft
But Joris' dream goes further. He wants to offer tourists and residents a full Delft experience. Think boat tours on the Schie with cocktail workshops and a behind-the-scenes look at the distillery in Schiedam.
The future of Delft Blue Gin
Delft Blue Gin is more than a drink; it is an experience and a symbol of what you can achieve with passion and creativity. At New Future Lab, we believe in the power of young entrepreneurs like Joris. Delft Blue Gin is not only a success story, but also an inspiration to others.
