MRDH invests in the future of young entrepreneurship

January 14, 2025

Kickstart Lab, based in Delft's dynamic Cable District, has reached an important milestone by receiving a grant worth 457,380 euros from the Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag (MRDH). This financial contribution will enable the organization to strengthen its mission - to support young entrepreneurs and students and thereby improve the connection between education and the labor market - over the next three years.

A home for entrepreneurial talent

Founded by Kristel Thieme, Kickstart Lab is distinguished by its unique "barrier-free" approach. "We create an environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of discipline or educational background," Thieme explains. "Whether you run a tech startup or sell handmade products, here you will find the space to grow."

Ambitious goals

With the new grant, Kickstart Lab aims to include at least 100 companies in its network within three years. The current ecosystem already includes a diverse mix of entrepreneurs: from tech startups and creative agencies to student entrepreneurs with catering companies and innovative repair services.

More than just a workplace

What makes Kickstart Lab unique is its focus on knowledge exchange and networking. The program offers:

- A professional work and meeting space

- Regular knowledge sessions and mentoring programs

- Facilities for customer meetings

- Making and storage space for products

Future Vision

The grant is part of a broader €1.9 million investment by MRDH in regional development. "This support allows us to create long-term impact," said Thieme. "It's not just about the success of individual companies, but about building a sustainable business climate in the region."

Kickstart Lab works closely with educational institutions and encourages entrepreneurs to not only connect with each other, but also pursue social impact. The program proves that successful entrepreneurship is not only about making a profit, but also about learning, growing and contributing meaningfully to the regional economy.

Kickstart Lab is part of New Future lab. Together with the Municipality of Delft, ROC Mondriaan, TU Delft, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Inholland University of Applied Sciences Delft, we are committed to optimally supporting young people and students in the Delft area in realizing their entrepreneurial dreams.
